An internal link does more than pass PageRank. Its source page, destination, anchor text and surrounding passage collectively describe a relationship between two content entities.

A strong structure lets people move from an overview to detail. It also helps search and AI systems identify topic hubs, definitions, comparisons, tools and case studies.

How pillar and cluster pages divide the work

A pillar page presents the full topic and provides navigation; a cluster article answers one focused question in depth. They should connect in both directions instead of sending every article only to the homepage.

Avoid common internal linking problems

Audit orphan pages, broken links, excessive click depth and near-duplicate articles competing for the same intent. When two pages do the same job, consolidation can be better than adding more links.
